On Nov. 12, 2010, US-China Friendship Volunteers Assessment Meeting was held in the meeting room of administrative building. Ms. Joanne Moore, assessment expert, Mr. Fu Minghua, Vice Director of International Affairs Office under Chongqing Education Committee and Ms. Liu Tiying, training manager, took part in the assessment on the teaching work of US volunteers. Together, Prof. Xie Peng, Vice President of CQMU, Ms. Yang Hong, Director of Foreign Affairs Office and Prof. Hu Yanping, former Dean of Foreign Language Department attended the meeting.
Prof. Xie first delivered a welcome speech, briefly introducing the university and the cooperation between CQMU and volunteer teachers. He put forward suggestions that teachers with medical background were welcome to join CQMU, who could guide students??? medical thesis writing or do medical research with Chinese staff besides giving English classes.
Ms. Yang, Director of Foreign Affairs Office, then summarized the teaching of volunteers that they were kind and dedicated to their work. They actively organized English corner, movie club and other extra-curriculum activities. Meanwhile, they were very much interested in Chinese culture and Chinese language and have made contribution to language teaching in CQMU and Sino-US cultural exchanges.
Prof. Hu, former Dean of Foreign Language Department and now a teacher of advanced English class, introduced the teaching of Stephen, the 2010 volunteer teacher. With Stephen???s help, the English teaching abilities of some medical experts in CQMU were approved.
Before the end of the meeting, an in-depth interview with students was conducted, where feedback on volunteers??? class performance was collected. The students pointed out that foreign teachers and students cooperated well and learned much from each other despite the cultural differences. They especially appreciated Ms. Kimberly, the 2010 volunteer teacher, for her diligence in teaching and flexible class arrangement.
In conclusion, Ms. Joanne Moore was satisfied with the assessment and spoke highly of the cooperation between volunteers and CQMU.
CQMU began the cooperation with US-China Friendship Volunteers in 2001. By the end of 2010, there have been 8 volunteers teaching here.
