The Dean of College of International Education, professor Liu Xiaotian and her deputy Han Mei visited the Oslo University College and Southern Denmark University in Sandburg upon invitation. The visit opened up a number of possible students exchange programs and facilitated an agreement with Sandburg City to build up a Confucius Institute there.
Norway started to reform its education system in 1994 to vigorously develop vocational education, for which Norway has only seven universities but has more than 20 colleges. Oslo University has seven colleges and 30 undergraduate courses, 22 post-graduate courses and one doctoral program. According to the English course arrangements, the first batch of CNU students from the primary education department will be set to learn education and international studies in this autumn semester. In addition, the university also hopes to send students to CNU to learn Chinese.
The whole Sandburg city has attached great importance on its relations with China and hopes to make the planned Confucius Institute an educational, cultural and commercial bridge with China. Eventually, they selected CNU as the partner to build up the Confucius Institute.
During the visit, officials from the Sandburg municipal government, business and Southern Denmark University have held in-depth exchanges and consultations with CNU delegates, and both sides have listened to each other's presentations and reports, and discussed the prospects of the Confucius Institute as well as its implications for the local community. A positive letter of intention was reached.
The visit has opened the gate for cooperation between CNU and Scandinavia countries and explored new directions for teachers and students in international exchange programs. With joint efforts from relevant departments, an increasing number of CNU students and teachers can have the chance to experience advanced teaching and learning abroad.
