The professor salon on underwater autonomous vehicle (UAV) development was held on the Chang'an campus on Oct. 27. Academician Xu Demin, President Jiang Chengyu, Vice President Wei Bingbo and other 19 professors from School of Marine Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Power and Energy, School of Electronics Engineering, School of Automatic Control, School of Sciences etc. exchange their views on the topic in a free atmosphere.
The salon is chaired by Professor Yan Weisheng from School of Marine Engineering. Professor Song Baowei, dean of the same School, delivers his keynote speech and explains the research progress made in UAV development, the cutting-edge and key UAV technologies in the world and NPU's thinking on UAV development.
President Jiang Chengyu presents his thinking on the requirements, progresses and trends of UAV development at home and abroad. On the basis of NPU's reality of UAV development, he designs NPU's UAV blueprint. Vice President Wei Bingbo exchanges his views on NPU's specialized development of science and technology and on UAV anti-drag and denoise materials.
Starting from the role of UAV in the Gulf War, Academician Xu Demin speaks about the importance of UAV and proposes to develop the UAV technology with NPU's characteristics and in broader areas than before, thus offering his new thinking and direction. Other professors in the salon exchange their UAV views on the cutting-edge and key technologies of underwater communication and positioning, functional materials, propulsion, control and navigation, monitoring, energy and hydroacoustics.
They finally reach consensuses on the interdisciplinary cooperation in the UAV field.
Present at the salon are also Professors Wang Haiyan and Zhang Xiaochuan, deputy directors of Science and Technology Division.
