On Oct. 14 NPU held the conference on China Scholarship Council (CSC) postgraduate selection work, which was attended by Vice President Wang Wei leaders from the Office of International Cooperation, the Graduate School and all other schools of the university. Sun Yu, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation, chaired the conference.
Sun Yu explains the CSC program, its requirements and precautions. Vice President Wang Wei summarizes NPU's CSC work this year and points out that 135 candidates for the program have passed the check-up by the CSC, with 78 candidates applying for PhD degree and 57 candidates for joint education. For the past four years NPU has received the praises and encouragement by the CSC because it ranks fifth among 39 universities under Project 985. It has sent 428 students, including 206 students studying for PhD degree and 220 students receiving joint education. The number of students abroad takes the 11th place among the universities under Project 985. NPU's 103% students have completed their PhD degrees, the figure being much larger than other universities' average figure of 72%. All the 78 students who have applied for PhD degree are admitted and thus NPU is the only university whose admission ratio is 100%. 57 students out of 64 have been admitted for joint education, only a few being not admitted, and thus NPU is one of the five universities in the category of small number of rejections. This fully demonstrates that the students selected by NPU are excellent and that NPU does a brilliant selection work.
The conference recommends that all the schools should pay much attention to doing good selection work for the CSC postgraduate program in 2011 carry out publicity and mobilization and contact host universities ahead of time to ensure that both the number and quality of postgraduates sent abroad reach an even higher level and that more outstanding students are selected.
