Recently the conference of China Scholarship Council was held in Dalian, Liaoning province, and attended by NPU Vice President Wang Wei, Li Tiehu, vice dean of Graduate School, and Sun Yu, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation.
Guo Xinli, deputy director of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, reported on boosting the development of prestigious universities. He earnestly hopes that the postgraduate scholarship program will play a decisive role in building prestigious universities in China.
Liu Jinghui, secretary-general of China Scholarship Council (CSC), reported on carrying out the state's talent program and educational program so as to achieve new breakthroughs in the postgraduate scholarship program, summarized the prominent achievements of the program during the past four years deployed the selection and implementation work to be done in 2011 and presented his preliminary ideas on the next Five-year Plan.
He says that the postgraduate scholarship program is an innovative method for educating high-level talents internationally and receives greater and greater attention from abroad.
In 2010, 135 NPU students who apply for the program pass the check-up by the CSC, and 78 of them apply for PhD degrees. Among the 78 applicants, 14 are graduating undergraduates; 52 are Master s degree postgraduates; 12 are PhD students, the degree-earning students taking 74.3%.
For four years since the project started, all the applicants from NPU are accepted, and NPU has fulfilled its plan in excess for three consecutive years. Its 426 students are admitted, and 206 of them will earn their PhD degrees. In 2010, the Ministry of Education and the CSC have increased the number of postgraduate scholarships from 100 to 105 and will add more in 2011.
It is learned from the conference that the number of scholarships given to NPU students ranked the fifth all over the country from 2007 - 2010 and that the money for the scholarship also increased on Sep. 1, 2010.
