On February 15th, Nanfang Daily printed a report entitled STU Takes the Lead in Building a Service-Oriented Party in University, concerning the new concept of Party-building put forward during the 4th STU Conference of Party Representatives. On the same day, the online edition of China Daily reprinted the full article, from which the following excerpt is quoted:
From Shengbo Zhang, Nanfang Daily It was reported recently that Shantou University was the first to come up with the concept of building a "Service-Oriented Party in University".
At the conference, Party Secretary Song Yaozhen proposed that the goal of Party-building is a service-oriented Party, which should strive for the work ethic embodied by the slogan hands on the wheels, eyes on good service, meaning that the Party should navigate in the correct direction while also focusing on providing good service. STU initiated the concept of building a service-oriented Party because at STU, the President assumes full responsibility for governance, and the university Council retains the rights to make resolutions about important issues; meanwhile, the Party provides the service to support administrative affairs.
Over the next eight years, STU will receive at least two billion RMB in investment from LKSF and another 800 million RMB from the Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong People s Government in order to shape STU into a top university, renowned both in China and around the world.
