On June 15, QIU Chengtong, a famous mathematician and professor of Harvard University, delivered a lecture at the Shaw Building of Science in South China University of Technology (SCUT). SCUT president LI Yuanyuan gave him a warm welcome.
Prof. QIU Chengtong gave a lecture titled "From Riemannian Geometry to Modern Computer Graphics". During the lecture, he, using simple but profound words, expatiated on the application of Riemannian geometry in the fields of physics, biology and iatrology.
In the interactive sessions, Prof. QIU Chengtong answered such questions as: what is the significance and prospect of studying basic scientific theories, how to develop rigorous attitude and interests in academic research, and how to cultivate students with innovative spirit in institutions for higher learning.
