On the afternoon of Feb. 28, SCUT annual work conference of 2011 was held at Liwu Science and Technology Building. The conference summed up the constructions during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan and the work in 2010, deployed the main work of 2011, and put forward development strategy for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan in combination with Project 985.
President LI Yuanyuan delivered the annual work report of SCUT in 2010 on behalf of the University party committee and administration. In the report, President Li summed up the main work done during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan in aspects of strengthening Party Construction & ideological and political work, strengthening construction of key disciplines, promoting outstanding performance in education and teaching, achieving breakthrough in science and technology, strengthening talents construction, strengthening international exchange and cooperation, improving intramural management system and operating mechanism, and solving problems concerning the immediate interests of teachers and students with close attention.
In addition, President Li indicated that the main work of 2011 should include consolidation and strethening in school-running reform, key construction of Project 985 and Project 211, infrastructure construction and livelihood construction, Party Construction & ideological and political work.
Chairwoman Wang expressed that SCUT has been well developed in all respects during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, especially in aspects of discipline construction, personnel training, scientific research and faculty construction etc. She emphasized that characteristics, talents and system are the three most important factors in college scientific development and high-level university construction. She pointed out that 2011 would be very important since sound work in 2011 would play a fundamental, guiding and strategic role in the development of SCUT during the whole Twelfth Five-Year Plan.
The conference was presided over by Executive vice president DU Xiaoming, with participants like school principals, directly affiliated institute directors, former university leaders, principal assistants, members of the Party committee, members of the Youth League Committee, academicians, all professors, deputies to the NPC, members of the National Committee of the CPPCC, principals of democratic parties and student delegates.
