President               of the University of La Rioja Visited SDU

From November 15th to 16th, the President of the University of La Rioja Prof. Jos Mar a Mart nez de Pis n Cavero, Vice-President Prof. Sylvia Sastre i Riba and Ms. Cristina Fernandez, Director of the International Project visited SDU. SDU President Xu Xianming received the guests.

President Xu introduced the history, specialty and midterm and long term development blueprints of SDU. He explained the goal of building SDU into a top university of the world in the next ten years and expressed his wish to further strengthen the cooperation with the University of La Rioja in particular in Spanish language study. Prof. Cavero recalled his first visit to SDU, and expressed his congratulations and admiration for the remarkable achievements of SDU. He stated his intention to strengthen cooperation with SDU and provide SDU with more support in Spanish teaching. He also introduced the history, faculties and international cooperation of the University of La Rioja. After the meeting, President Xu and President Cavero signed a renewed cooperation agreement.

During their visit, Prof. Cavero and his companions visited the School of Foreign Languages and Literature and the College of International Education. The deans of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature introduced the school and acknowledged the generous scholarship support and assistance to the students of Spanish language from the University of La Rioja. The two sides wish to expand cooperation in Spanish teaching. In a meeting with the teachers and students of the Spanish Department, Prof. Cavero gave a presentation of the University of La Rioja and encouraged the students to study in the university. In the College of International Education, Prof. Cavero investigated SDU's experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and international promotion of Chinese. He also visited the teaching and living facilities of this college.

SDU and the University of La Rioja signed a cooperation agreement and students exchange agreement in 2006. Since then, the University of La Rioja has been providing SDU students majoring in Spanish with scholarships to support their one year study in the University of La Rioja. The University of La Rioja also sends students to attend the international summer school held by SDU.
