President Hou Jianguo discusses university development with alumni from home and abroad

Hou Jianguo, President of the University of Science and Technology of China and Deputy to the 2^nd Plenary Session of the 11^th Chinese National People's Congress, had a discussion in Beijing with alumni on the alma mater's development on the evening of March 7 at the request of the Xinchunag USTC Alumni Foundation. Also present at the discussion were Chen Xiaojian, assistant to the president of USTC, and Guo Shengli, office director of the USTC Alumni Association.

Nearly a hundred alumni participated in the discussion, which was sponsored by the USTC Alumni Association, the USTC Beijing Division of Teaching and Management, and the Beijing USTC Alumni Association, and organized by the Xinchunag USTC Alumni Foundation. Among those present at the meeting were some deputies to the 11^th National People's Congress and the 11^th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, alumni living in Beijing, and alumni from the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Jilin, Changsha, Wuxi and other places. They included Rao Zihe, president of the Nankai University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (class of 73-2), Wang Lu, director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hainan Province (class of 78-5), Xiang Libin, director of the Xi'an Branch of CAS (class of 85-9), Deng Zhonghan, chairman of the board of the Vimicro Corporation, (class of 87-7), Liu Qingfeng, chairman of the board of Anhui USTC iFLYTEK Co., Ltd., (class of 90-6), and Hu Weiwu, research fellow of the Computing Technology Research Institute of CAS (class of 86-11).
