President of Yamaguchi University Visited SDU

From September 21st to 23rd, a delegation led by Prof. Dr. Marumoto, the President of Yamaguchi University, visited SDU. The delegation which was received by SDU president Xu Xianming discussed issues concerning academic exchange and cooperation with SDU.

President Xu welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for receiving an honorary doctoral degree from Yamaguchi University. In his address at the conferment ceremony last year, he said the honor does not belong to him alone; it belongs to all the teachers and students who have studied or worked in Yamaguchi University, and it signifies a new level of cooperation between Yamaguchi University and SDU. He said recently China has been pouring more efforts into the uneven development between urban and rural areas and between eastern and western regions, its social justice and its environmental pollution. The Chinese government has adopted a series of policies to promote scientific education. The newly published outline of reformation and development of Chinese education indicates a good number of Chinese universities will step into the circle of world-famous universities in the following ten years. As one of China s key universities, SDU has ranked in the world s top 100 in mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials and engineering. It will continue improving five to ten subjects to measure up with the international advanced level. In order to fulfill its outlook of ranking as one of the best universities of the world in the following ten years, SDU has adopted an internationalization strategy to enhance cooperation with foreign universities such as Yamaguchi University. President Marumoto expressed his appreciation for SDU s hospitality. He said the 27 years history of exchange has witnessed a solid relation between SDU and Yamaguchi University. He wished that SDU would accomplish its goal successfully. The chief editor of the Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy, Prof. Wang Xuedian, director of SDU Development and Planning Department, Kong Lingdong, and director of the SDU International Office, Tong Guangwu, also attended the meeting.

During this visit, the two universities held meetings concerning cooperation and exchange. The delegation also visited the International Office of Yamaguchi University in SDU.
