At the invitation of the Atomic Energy Commission of France (CEA), a 12-member USTC delegation of young and middle-aged professors of physical sciences headed by President Hou Jianguo visited CEA for the second USTC/CEA bilateral science symposium from October 4 to 8. During the symposium, both sides reached a framework agreement on mutual cooperation in student visits, joint training, collaborative research, academic exchanges and resource sharing. It was also decided that the third USTC/CEA bilateral science symposium would be held in China in 2011.
The symposium highlighted advanced academic exchanges between scholars of both institutions, with 30 high-quality reports delivered and in-depth discussions conducted on key issues in the field of nano science and technology.
During their stay, President Hou and his colleagues also visited the newly established Saclay Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, the Institute of Optics, and the Institute of Nano Science and Low Temperature Technology, and met with Professor Y. Caristan, head of the Saclay Research Center and Division of Physical Sciences.
