From March 14 to 18, a fifteen-student delegation participated in the 20th World Model United Nations Conference (WorldMUN) jointly hosted by Harvard University and National University of Singapore. Participants came from 266 universities around the world, including Harvard University, Yale University, Cambridge University, Oxford University and other world-class universities. Representatives from 16 universities of Mainland China attended the conference.
Founded two decades ago, WorldMUN is the premiere global United Nations conference bringing together college students from around the world for a youth summit in a new international city each year. The first conference was held in Mi dzyzdroje, Poland. In 2006, for the first time World MUN was held in Beijing. In two decades, World MUN has become one of global conferences with the greatest impact and highest academic levels, offering an effective communication platform for college students around the world.
Topics discussed in the conferences of 23 committees WorldMUN 2011 covered issues concerning politics, economy, culture, health, security etc. Zhejiang University delegation participated in the conferences of 5 committees, namely HGA, DISEC, WHO, SPECPOL and SOCHUM. Representatives demonstrated their maturity and independent thinking in negotiation, striving for the best interest for the countries involved.
Zhejiang University Model United Nations Association was founded in 2007. In the past 4 years, the Association has successfully hosted Pan-Yangtze River Delta Model United Nations Conference (PYDMUN) for 3 times, and has now become a student association with the biggest campus impact and appeal. On behalf of Zhejiang University, the Association has attended Model United Nations held in different regions, winning a number of awards and recognition. The Association is now making preparatory plans for the next PYDMUN.
