BEIJING, Aug.13 (Xinhua) -- Beijing will implement a regulation on the disposal of garbage for restaurants that says each restaurant has to open the amount and destination of its food waste to inspection and introduce supervision of the disposal process.
That was disclosed by a statement issued by the Committee of Beijing Municipality and City Appearance Thursday.
"About 1,000 pilot units, which each produce over 0.1 tonne of food waste per day, have been selected to register," said Chen Ling, deputy director of the Committee of Beijing Municipality and City Appearance.
The registration file will include basic information, food waste output, the collecting and transporting unit and the final destination.
Within two years, the file system will expand to include all restaurants in Beijing. Also, restaurants are encouraged to sign garbage removal contracts before obtaining their business licenses, said Chen.
About 1,680 tonnes of food waste is produced in Beijing everyday. The two food waste garbage factories in the city can dispose of 600 tonnes every day. The Dongcun garbage disposal factory, which is under construction, will begin trial operation in 2010.
