Ginger prices in China have risen about 18% in a 33-day period, according to a report Monday in the 21st Century Business Herald. The spice, commonly used in Chinese cooking as well as beverages, rose to 13.14 yuan ($1.94) per kilogram as of Aug. 15, according to the report which cited price data from Xinhuanet. The report said prices rose steadily throughout much of the period, but began to moderate recently. Lower-income households are particularly sensitive to rising food prices because such outlays represent a larger percentage of weekly household budgets.
