Seniors give up bus seats to young

About 100 senior citizens called on fellow seniors to avoid taking public transportation during morning and evening rush hours so that young people might have more places to sit, according to the Beijing Youth Daily.
The seniors made the suggestion during a discussion held by the Andingmen sub-district committee Tuesday.
Most of the city's elderly often take public transportation, which is free for Beijing hukou holders above the age of 60.
This contributes to overcrowding in buses and subways during peak traffic hours while leaving less of a chance for young people who are heading to work and back home to get on, suggested the seniors.
