To mourn the victims of the earthquakes in New Zealand, Yunnan and Japan, chrysanthemum sales peaked early this year before Tomb-Sweeping Day, the Legal Mirror reported Monday.
Several flower shops revealed that chrysanthemum continued to sell well after prices increased from 1 ($0.15) to 4 yuan.
Many Beijing florists told the newspaper that most buyers had purchased chrysanthemums to participate in mourning ceremonies and vigils at Japanese businesses or at the Japanese embassy in Beijing.
Chrysanthemum prices are expected to increase again during Tomb-Sweeping Day on April 5.
