Beijing is expecting tomb-sweeping peaks from April 3 to 5, and on April 9 and 10. Last Saturday saw about 287,000 visitors at 117 cemeteries, a decrease of 60,000 compared to the same period last year.
Related departments had estimated that the total number would exceed 3 million, 500,000 more than last year, according to the Beijing Times.
Cemeteries will enact crowd control measures at peak times for safety.
