Beijing plans to eliminate 450,000 aging motor vehicles in five years, Chen Tian, director of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, said Monday during an interview on the city's plan to purify the air between 2011 and 2015.
Inhalable particles are expected to decrease by 10 percent, and the ratio of second-level and up good air days will reach 80 percent, Chen said.
Stricter measures will be taken to tackle soot pollution, and the six downtown districts will be developed into soot-free areas. Heavy-pollution enterprises will be prohibited from entering Beijing, including metallurgical, chemical and building material industries, the Legal Mirror reported.
