Calderwood pays China a visit

Bill Calderwood, interim CEO, PATA, together with Joao Antunes, chairman-elect, PATA, visited Beijing on March 24 and met with the hosts of the PATA 60th Anniversary and Conference, the National Tourism Administration of the People s Republic of China (CNTA) and Beijing Municipal Government.

The two senior PATA officials met with Shao Qiwei, chairman, CNTA, and Lu Yong, vice secretary-general, Beijing Municipal Government, to discuss the upcoming PATA 60th Anniversary. Calderwood acknowledged the CNTA s efforts in promoting China s inbound and outbound markets and putting a priority on the development of tourism. He also expressed his appreciation for the support shown by the hosts to the PATA 60th Anniversary and Conference. Chairman Shao commended PATA on its strong influence in the travel and tourism industry and assured that they would double their efforts in ensuring that the upcoming PATA 60th Anniversary and Conference would be a successful one.

The two parties shared ideas on exploring opportunities for cooperation, with particular focus on tourism education and training.
