Meeting on National Agricultural Aid to Tibet Held

On August 6, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) held a meeting in Lhasa on national agricultural aid to Tibet, with a view of implementing the spirit of the CPC Central Committee s fifth work meeting on Tibet, summarizing its development during the period of the 11th Five-Year Plan, and deploying the work for the 12th Five-Year Plan. Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture, said that agricultural departments at all levels should carefully learn and grasp the spirit of the meeting, acquire an accurate comprehension of the deployment and requirements of the Central Committee, boost the sense of responsibility, mission and urgency, and strive to do a better job in aiding Tibet, from the perspective of overall interests of the CPC and the whole nation, so as to promote the development of agriculture and livestock, bring prosperity to rural and pastoral areas, and generate more income for farmers and herdsmen.

A handover ceremony of agricultural aid to Tibet and a signing ceremony of Aid-Tibet agricultural cooperation were also held.

At the signing ceremony, 16 institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture reached Letters of Intent with the Tibetan side in terms of relevant techniques, talents and projects; 11 relevant departments at the provincial and municipal levels signed 13 agreements on aid projects with agricultural and pastoral departments of prefectures and cities in Tibet, with the total contract amount reaching RMB 43.45 million yuan.

Before the meeting, the Ministry of Agriculture and the People s Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region held the handover ceremony. The Ministry of Agriculture allocated RMB 41.5 million yuan to support agricultural technology extension and system establishment in the seven prefectures and cities of Tibet, and supplied 44 non-stop vans equipped with agricultural technology to agricultural and pastoral departments in border counties and alpine-cold pastoral areas with poor transportation.
