Pavilion transports to future

The SAIC-GM Pavilion, in the Puxi section of the Expo Garden, held an opening ceremony on May 1, the opening day of the Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Officials, including Board Chairman of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Hu Maoyuan, President of SAIC Group Shen Jianhua and President of General Motors (GM) China Gan Wenwei, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Vice presidents of SAIC Motor Xiao Guopu and Zhou Langhui, vice president of SAIC Group Ye Yongming, and more than 50 VIP guests also attended the ceremony.

The pavilion is a strategic cooperative Expo project jointly built by SAIC Group and GM China. Experiencing pressures during the trial operation, the pavilion passed tests for its exhibits and operating capability. Its exhibition and the quality service of the pavilion have also received encouragement from authorities.

On behalf of SAIC Group, Shen Jianhua made a speech at the ceremony, extending a warm welcome to all guests and sincere gratitude to leaders and friends for their support on the construction of the SAIC-GM Pavilion. He also expressed gracious greetings to all those working for the pavilion, including constructors, company employees and volunteers.

Focusing on the Expo theme of Better City, Better Life, the pavilion will guide visitors to observe the present, think of tomorrow and have a vision of urban transportation in 2030.

He said that in the next six months the pavilion promises to provide an exciting experience that every visitor will enjoy. It employs scientific and highly efficient management concepts to guarantee the safe and smooth operation of the pavilion and to contribute to hosting a successful, brilliant and unforgettable Expo.

President of GM China Gan Wenwei also made a speech at the opening ceremony.

Zhou Bowen, a representative of the students who attended My 2030 activities read his essay at the ceremony, expressing the thoughts of numerous students on urban transportation in 2030.

After the ceremony officials, VIP guests and some of the audience entered the main exhibition area and watched a movie featuring Zhou Huajian, Chen Guangrong and Cao Qitai, who were also at the event and met with the audience after the movie.
