Australian Chinese Youths Seek Roots in Hunan

The ten-day winter camp, so called 2010 Root-seeking in China (Hunan), kicked off on the afternoon of Dec.30 at No. One Middle School of Changsha Civil Railway Engineering Group.

37 Australian Chinese youths taking part in the activity will learn about Chinese traditional culture, Kongfu and Chinese language. They will visit tourist attractions in Hunan, such as Chairman Mao s former residence in Shaoshan Village, Xiangtan City, Orange Isle, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang Phoenix Ancient Town and Dehang Miao Village in West Hunan. They will also experience local life at Hunan students' homes.

"I hope these youths could deepen their understanding of Huxiang (Hunan) culture by tasting spicy food and experience profound Chinese culture during the tour so as to raise their awareness of Hunan root", said Li Yan, vice president of Australian Chinese Language Schools Association Incorporated and head of the camp.

On the launching ceremony, Deputy Director of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the People's Government of Hunan Province Zhang Dingguo urged Australian Chinese Youths to continue to accumulate knowledge and explore Chinese culture. Besides, they were asked to bear Chinese root in heart and step up the pace of root-seeking. They were also expected to promote friendly exchange and cooperation between China and the rest of the world and spread Chinese culture to the whole world.
