Brazil Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State visits CUC

On the morning of August 4, Vice President Yuan Jun met Professor Anna, the director of the International Office of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State. This was the first time for this university to send people to visit the CUC since the two schools began their cooperation in 2005.

During the meeting, Vice President Yuan first appreciated the Federal University for freely receiving three CUC classes majoring in Portuguese of totally 64 students to study in their school. Yuan also said that the two sides had carried out substantive exchanges in such areas as teacher exchange, student exchange, and Portuguese education cooperation, which laid a sound foundation for future collaboration.
Professor Anna extended greetings from the President of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State to President Su Zhiwu, and thanked Yuan to take time to meet her.
Their talks focused on some cooperation in the following areas: Chinese language training, exchange of visiting scholars, and research co-operation. Prior to the meeting, Li Zuowen, the chairman of the Foreign Languages College introduced the college s general situation and the major setup of the Portuguese specifically.
Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State, founded in 1895, is one of the oldest institutions in Brazil. It began to take shape in the twentieth century, and has now become a base for higher education in this state. At present, the total number of students and professors tops other universities, among whose dominant subjects are medical disciplines, literature, history, communication, urban planning. It has established a friendly relationship with the CUC since January 2005. Thus, the CUC students in Portuguese major can go and study in this school for one year.
