On Nov. 9, the Second World Conference on Recent Developments in Sugar Technology was held at Shaw Building of Humanities of SCUT. This conference was sponsored by School of Light Chemistry and Food Science of SCUT, and co-organized by China Sugar Association and Guangzhou Cane Sugar Industry Research Institute. Over 200 professionals from more than 10 countries and regions attended the conference.

The conference discussed the recent developments in sugar technology. Its topics covering all the technical aspects of sugar technology, such as energy conservation and pollution abatement program for the China Sugar Industry, sugar refining techniques etc. The conference has provided a communication platform for the experts and enterprises at home and abroad.

It is of vital significance to SCUT in improving its sugar manufacturing program, which is a national key discipline, and promoting its academic communication and scientific cooperation with international professionals in the field, thus contributing to the development of China's sugar industries.
