The Sino-German Symposium on Novel Inorganic Membranes with Nano Design was held at SCUT from March 21 to 26, 2010. It was funded by Sino-German Center for Research Promotion of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Vice-president QIU Xueqing attended the Symposium and made a welcome speech.

There were 15 top international experts and more than 40 domestic industry experts in the field of inorganic membrane attending the Symposium, including Prof. Jerry Lin, Chief Editor of Journal of Membrane Science (an internationally renowned trade journal), and Prof. Theodore T. Tsotsis, academician from the United States Academy of Engineering, etc.

The conference was co-chaired by Prof. WANG Haihui from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of SCUT, and Prof. Juergen Caro from the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany.

In his speech, vice-president QIU Xueqing warmly welcomed the experts coming from home and abroad. He briefed the experts and scholars of the development history of SCUT, particularly the dramatic changes since the reform and opening-up. He hoped that the experts would have in-depth and detailed discussions about the professional issues in the field of inorganic membranes during their meeting, and wished the Symposium a success.
There were 4 invitational reports and 40 oral reports being made during the Symposium. The hot international issues in the field of inorganic membrane attracted many experts to participate in the discussions, producing waves of debate climax. The Symposium will play a significant role in promoting and facilitating the development and application of catalytic inorganic membrane discipline, and at the same time, it helps further improve the international profile of SCUT and attract more key international cooperation projects.
Besides, Prof. ZHAO Miaogen, the Executive Deputy Director of Sino-German Center for Research Promotion, made a brief description of Sino-German Center at the Symposium.
