On December 3rd 2006 in Beijing, CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles Company Limited(briefly called CRC) and Australian EDI Rail signed the Subcontract on providing 626 double-deck passenger cars with stainless steel car-body for the Public-Private Project of New South Wales State of Australia, CNR Vice President Zhao Guangxing and CRC Vice President Li Piqing attended the signing ceremony and signed on the Contract, totaling US$310.82 million, which is the first time for Chinese coaches to develop and manufacture the passenger cars for the developed countries and is also the largest export project in the field of China locomotive and rolling stock industry.
According to the Contract, each train-set shall consist of 8 double-deck cars with stainless steel car-body, satisfy the Australian standards from the designing to the manufacturing, and the first train-set shall be delivered on October 2008 while the last shall be finished on September 2013.
