TCL-AOBO Promotes Circular Economy Industry

September 22nd,2009

On September 20th, construction of the headquarters of TCL-AOBO Environmental Protection and Development Co., Ltd. (Tianjin), a company jointly invested in by TCL Huizhou Environmental Protection Co., Tianjin Boqi Metal Products Co., Ltd., and Tianjin Ziya Environmental Protection Industry Park Co., Ltd., officially began.

TCL-AOBO will be a high-tech environmental protection venture. TCL Corporation will follow the EU and China s three-waste emission standard. The company will also import equipment and technologies from Japan and Europe to build a world class waste electronics and electrical appliance disposal enterprise.

Industry insiders have stated that, "The establishment of a TCL environmental protection company will raise the standard of China s environmental friendly technologies and enhance the development of China s waste electronics and electrical appliance disposal industry."

TCL-AOBO will be a multipurpose environmental protection corporation. From planning, design, to construction, TCL-AOBO will focus on meeting the requirement from pilot programs of waste imported appliances.. Phase One of the venture is expected to process up to 100,000 tons of electronics and electrical appliances per year.

To deal with ever increasing waste electronics and electrical appliances, China has spent a lot of effort in regulating the waste electronics recycling sector. The State Council ratified the Waste Electrical and Electronic Products Recycling Regulations during its 23rd executive meeting on August 20, 2008.

The regulations will be implemented starting on January 1, 2011. Following the implementation of the Circular Economy Promotion Law of the People's Republic of China on January 1, 2009, the Program to Encourage Automobile-Home Appliance Like-for-like Replacement was released on June 3rd just in time to aid enterprises that specialize in E-waste recycling and disposal.

The program will help consumers recycle waste home appliances through regulated channels, thereby boosting the supply of raw materials for environmental protection enterprises. When interviewed about the motor vehicle and home appliance replacement subsidies, representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, and Department of Environmental Protection explained that, so far, nine cities in China already have pilot programs that allow enterprises to bid for home appliance sales and recycling programs.

The August winners of the recycling bids in Beijing included TCL Corporation and Haier. These programs offer enterprises new opportunities for growth.

Founded in June 2009, TCL-AOBO is located in Tianjin Ziya Environmental Protection Industry Park, a National Circular Economy Pilot Park. Partner enterprise Tianjin Boqi is an experienced and solid environmental protection company that specializes in dismantling imported machines and waste plastics processing. Benefiting from the strengthens that each partner brings, TCL-AOBO will enter the industry from a high vantage point. The company is poised to draft the new chapter in China s environmental protection and circular economy development.

Industry insiders explain that, "E-wastes exhibit a very striking dual characteristic, which is reusability and pollution potential. Recycling and proper disposal of waste appliances are part of every enterprise s corporate social responsibilities. TCL-AOBO will contribute toward a harmonious and circular economy society by commercializing China s circular economy and environmental protection efforts.

No matter what opportunity in applying for a permit to dispose imported waste appliances brings or the vast market potential unlocked by the regulation of the disposal of China s waste appliances, enterprises are exposed to a great store of commercial potential. The industry is still in its developmental phase.

Entering the industry now presents TCL Corporation with excellent opportunities for growth."

In the 28 years since TCL Corporation s founding,, the company has always insisted on self-innovation and upholding its corporate social responsibilities in environmental protection. Through rigid energy saving product certification, promoting and building a green supply chain, green and circular production, and recycling,TCL Corporation is committed to providing consumers with ever greener and more energy efficient products.

Regarding environmental friendly and energy saving technologies, the company had already put in place an environmental control system back in 2005, when the company built three lead-free production lines that met EU standard. TCL Corporation also became one of the earliest home appliance enterprises in China to meet RoHS standard.

In 2007, TCL Corporation achieved major progress in energy saving technology when its core technology - natural light was recognized as the company s intellectual property. This technology solved the world class challenge of lowering the energy consumption and emission of flat screen TVs.
