Prof. George C. Schatz from the Northwest University of USA was invited to deliver a memorial lecture for celebrating the 60th Anniversary of DICP on 1st September. His lecturing topic was "Nanoparticles, DNA, and Theory". On his talk, Prof. Schatz described the method and the underlying principle for obtaining gold nano-particles by utilizing DNA chains.
He also talked on the applying of theories and computing models for fixing the optical and structural properties of the nano-particles. In his presentation, Prof. Schatz indicated how theories can be used to explain experimental results and predict unknown phenomena.
The lecturing session was chaired by Prof. YANG Xueming, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Dynamics, DICP. Prof. LI Can, Vice-Director of DICP, presented an Honorary Lecture Certificate on the 60th Anniversary of DICP to Prof. Schatz on behalf of the institute. About 100 DICP scientists and graduate students were present in the lecture.
