In 2011, Changsha plans to intensify the construction of Shanghai-Kunming, Shimen-Changsha, and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan(CZT) inter-city railways. The city will also accelerate the building of rail transit, the integrated transport hubs across the Xiangjiang River and in the Changsha Pioneering District on the west of the Xiangjiang River, relevant sources told the reporter.
Experts estimate that high-speed railway, national railway, inter-city railway, and subway will be all available for Changsha citizens in four years.
The Hangzhou-Changsha passenger dedicated line (PDL) is expected to complete construction in 2014. Until then Changsha will become a hub of high-speed railway in central China with the urban construction to undergo a substantial change. The planning and construction of high-speed urban rail transit and CZT inter-city railway will greatly ease the traffic congestion, and meanwhile make exchanges among people of Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan cities more convenient.
It is revealed that after the Changsha-Kunming section of Shanghai-Kunming railway PDL is finished, the single line of the railway will transport 60 million passengers annually, and the travel time from Changsha to Kunming will be reduced within 4 hours from the current 22.8 hours.
