There are now more than 35,000 children of migrant workers studying in Tangxia. Tangxia government said it will increase the proportion of children of migrant workers who can receive education subsidies by 5% per year for the next five years.
Some 1200 more children of migrant workers in Tangxia can receive education subsidies this year. The Tangxia Township Government of Dongguan has recently made a decision to raise the proportion of children of migrant workers who can receive education subsidies to 15% from previous 10%, making a total of 3600 students can enjoy the benefit.
Fu Guizhen, a junior middle school student studying in Huazheng School in Tangxia, received a big surprise yesterday, the first day of her new semester. Although it is a few hundred yuan, it reduces some of the burdens for my parents, and make me more focus on my study, she said.
Since the year of 2008, Tangxia Township Government has been carrying out a policy to grant education subsidies to the children of migrant workers. 10% of migrant workers children studying in Tangxia can receive an annual education subsidy: 325 yuan for a primary school student per semester and 495 yuan for a junior school student per semester. The policy costs 1.5 million yuan for the government s budget every year.
So far 13,790 children of migrant workers have received the education subsidy. In Huazheng School, 426 students receive the education subsidy last year.
There are now more than 35,000 children of migrant workers studying in Tangxia. The government said it will increase the proportion by 5% per year for the next five years, and hopefully 40% of migrant workers children studying in Tangxia can enjoy the benefit by the year of 2017.
