The third wrap-up meeting on Student Exchange Programs concluded in the Lecture Hall on December 23. Chancellor Luo Weidong, President Xu Jinwu and Vice President Zhang Yue, students and faculties attended the meeting.
The meeting preluded with a speech given by a program leader from the International Office, urging students to examine their knowledge through participation in outreach projects. The program leader noted that projects of USTB have grown into a whole system of student exchange, Sino-foreign joint programs, abroad Master degree projects and government funded overseas study. And the level and scale of international cooperation have been escalated ever since.
On the meeting, a video sent by USTB students studying abroad gave an insight into the various educational resources and models in those overseas universities and carried the New Year's greetings from the students. In 2009, over 200 undergraduates and graduates have been exchanged to study in Canada, the US, Britain, Japan and Taiwan Province.
International students from Germany and South Korea delivered speeches in fluent Chinese about their study and campus life, expressing strong affection towards an increasingly prosperous Chinese culture.
President Xu Jinwu said that the knowledge learned was as important as the abilities gained to practice in the all-round development of the youth. And education is not just about igniting creativity. It aims at inspiring the thinking of students. So what students have acquired in those exchange programs will have a profound impact on their future.
Chancellor Luo Weidong highlighted in the concluding speech that USTB has made concerted efforts and notable progress in student exchange programs and international students projects. It is a process through which the university authority and students have deepened their understanding, built up their consensus and stepped forward to strengthen international cooperation. After the conference on promoting international outreach last month, USTB has made a plan to provide 10% of its graduates with opportunities to be exchanged to overseas universities, broadening students' horizon and enhancing USTB's international communications.
Globalization, nowadays, requires students to be visionary, professional and proficient. And it has become a major challenge facing all universities and students. USTB will continue making strenuous efforts in elevating its international process to involve more students in the exchange programs.
