Chaired by Prof. Feng Qiang, Vice Director of National Centre for Materials Science (NCMS), an annual meeting for exchange between NCMS and National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) of Japan was held in USTB on March 8th. A six-member delegation headed by Dr. Kotobu Nagai, Chief Scientist and Director General of NIMS, attended the meeting. Prof. Xu Jinwu, USTB President; Prof. Sun Dongbai, Vice President; Dr. Koichi Yagi, USTB Senior Consultant; Prof. Wang Ge, Director of the International Office, and faculties from NCMS were present at the meeting.
Prof. Xu Jinwu, President of USTB, extended a warm welcome to the visiting NIMS delegation. He said that NIMS enjoyed a renowned international reputation through years dedicating itself to the research on materials science. Xu called for the deepening of mutual exchange between USTB and NIMS by intensifying collaboration and cooperation in such fields as materials database, corrosion and protection, and creep and fatigue.
Dr. Kotobu Nagai introduced last year's exchange program between NIMS and USTB, stating that NIMS and NCMS were complementary to each other in research fields which suggested a cheerful prospect of further cooperation. He then expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Koichi Yagi for his special contribution in the program.
Vice President Sun Dongbai noted that this year's meeting was held on the basis of the 2009 NCMS-NIMS Strategic Cooperation Memorandum, providing a platform for future research information exchange and scientific cooperation. Sun made his best wish for the collaboration in the upcoming year.
This annual meeting presents far-reaching and promising areas of interaction between USTB and NIMS. After the meeting, a two-day seminar was held for the panel discussion and academic lectures by NCMS and NIMS experts and scholars.
