At the invitation of Ritsumeikan Uji Junior & Senior High School, Japan, Teng Tianxiang, Dong Tiantian and Dong Jiayu, students from Dalian No. 1 High School, took part in the First Ritsumeikan Uji International Student Forum from February 16-23. The participants, from 16 high schools in 11 countries and regions, discussed and presented 5 topics with the theme of Peace and International Understanding : Bridging Cultures, Environmental Sustainability, Reflection on History, Economic Inequality, and Development and Nuclear Disarmament. Dalian No. 1 High School s choice was Bridging Cultures.
During the forum, students gave their presentations in panels divided according to their topics. Students fromJapan, Beijing China, Thailand and South Korea were in the same group; they exchanged ideas about bridging cultures with Chinese Confucius as a starting point, and won praise from teachers and students with their unique topic and fluent expression. In the follow-up activities, under the guidance of professors from Ritsumeikan University, students from different cultural contexts and different countries had in-depth discussions about the topic, summarizing data and materials, and showcasing their understanding, concerns, problems and solutions by means of video, animation and presentation.
During the visit, the organizers took the students around to some famous attractions in Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima to experience the unique cultural characteristics of Japan.
Dalian No. 1 High School has always brought students into international exchanges and cooperation, training them through international competitions of science, technology and culture, and enhancing the school s international exchanges in education. At the forum, students paid close attention to social reality, addressed international hot issues through international thinking and with a strengthened sense of social responsibility. Meanwhile, they learned how to show respect and listen to others and how to share and collaborate with others in communication and interaction.
