March 25 - On March 19th, Arthur Coren of Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Canada, along with the Chinese Ministry of Education Service Center for Scholarly Project Development Director, Zhou Jianxun, paid a visit to the GDUFS School of English for International Business. Director of International Exchange Jiao Fangtai and Associate Dean of Business English Guo Guihang and Peng Lingling met cordially with the guests at the conference hall on the North Campus. There, they exchanged views on student and academic exchanges, as well as joint research.
During the meeting
Mr. Jiao first introduced background cooperation. He emphasized the practicability of exchange programs between the two faculties, noting that an undergraduate exchange program could be a breakthrough to initial and further arenas of cooperation. Mr. Guo delivered a warm welcome on behalf of the faculty and expressed a wish to cooperate. He elaborated on three aspects: professional setting and school characteristics, present cooperation with foreign schools and future development plans. His introduction focused on the mode and effect of the GDUFS - Queensland postgraduate program and the GDUFS - Dortmund, German exchange student program. He expressed his desire for a cooperative program of "Two Years Plus Two" and "One Year Plus One" Dual Degree with the School of Business on the level of undergraduate and postgraduate respectively, continuing the pattern of "mutually recognizing credits and free tuition". Meanwhile, the two schools will gradually extend the scale, forms of teaching, and research activities to scientific research cooperation and exchange teacher visits.
Mr. Gui introducing the School of English for International Business
Dean Arthur Coren briefly introduced the academic situation at the School of Business. He then expressed that the faculty has been looking to co-operate with outstanding universities, and he hoped an agreement with the Business English Faculty could be reached as soon as possible. After the meeting, the delegation from Kwantlen visited classrooms to better understand the current undergraduate education level. Arthur Coren deeply praised what he saw in GDUFS classrooms and fully approved of teachers' levels and students' apprehensive quality.
Arthur Coren expressing intention to cooperate
Both sides have helped to lay the groundwork for an initial framework agreement. Hopefully the first batch of students will be sent to Kwantlen for exchange study in September of this year.
