December 15 - GDUFS President Sui Guangjun held an interview with Mr. Frank Lavin, US former Vice-Minister of Commerce and his wife in the administrative building on north campus last Tuesday. Also in attendance were Li Qing, Secretary General of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and leaders from other faculties.

Mr. Sui Guangjun, on behalf of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and GDUFS, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Lavin. Then he gave a brief introduction about the history, development and remarkable employment rate of GDUFS. Despite the challenges imposed by the current global economic crisis, GDUFS has still managed to maintain an employment rate at over 90% this year.
During his introduction, Mr. Sui focused on the GDUFS internationalization strategy, with the establishment of the Research Institute for International Strategies as an expression of that intent.Besides this, Guangdong High-Level Forum was held on December 11th, which covered the trend of global trade and economy in the post-crisis era and Guangdong s response strategy. Mr. Sui also demonstrated that the US economic change is a major focus, for Sino-US trade partnership has been confronted with unprecedented challenges due to a surge of protectionism.
Mr. Lavin expressed his heart-felt gratitude to the warm welcome by GDUFS leaders. He spoke highly of GDUFS internationalized position and broad horizons which he believed, are beneficial to the cultivation of future leaders. When informed that apart from the majors of 13 foreign languages, GDUFS also launched whole English classes in non-language majors such as journalism and economies, Mr. Lavin was deeply impressed by its large scale compared with projects of the same kind in American universities.
Boasting accomplishments in business management and administration, Mr. Lavin happily accepted Mr. Sui invitation to visit GDUFS in the future and share his ideas with students from the MBA center and Law School. He also answered some of Mr. Sui questions about foreign teacher s unwillingness to come to teach in China despite their strong desire for academic communication.

In the end, President Sui invited Mr. and Mrs. Lavin to visit GDUFS in the future while sending them home with a portrait of Confucius as a souvenir.
