Recently, a delegation led by Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Thai Consul General to Guangzhou visited SCAU. He showed great interest in the research achievement of the agricultural machinery and equipment after watching the on-site demonstration of the precision seed-sowing machine and laser land-scraper. Later, the delegation had a formal discussion with President Chen Xiaoyang, Vice-president Lu Huazhong and Academician Luo Xiwen.
Chen gave a warm welcome to the guests and he briefed the profile of SCAU. He said that Thailand and SCAU shared a long history of friendly communication: Thai Princess Ms. Maha Chakri Sirindhorn became Honorary Professor of SCAU during her visit in 2006; Prince of Songkhla University and SCAU had established a long-term academic communication and cooperation. Chen pointed out that Academician Luo Xiwen had gained fruitful achievement in the research of agricultural machinery and equipment, and some of the scientific achievements had been widely used in China and Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, Chen hoped that both sides could strengthen mutual communication and cooperation, and SCAU would spare no effort to provide Thailand with relevant agricultural technology.
Academician Luo Xiwen introduced the operating mechanism, process and advantages of the precision seed-sowing machine and laser land-scraper. He pointed out that currently, these two technologies were comparatively mature and had been widely used in China some Southeast Asian countries including Burma, Malaysia and Laos. The experiment showed that the prospect of precision seed-sowing machine was much brighter than that of the traditional rice-planting methods including plant transplanting and broadcast-seeding, because of the advantages of fertilizer-saving, water-conservation, high efficiency and greater productivity. Prof. Li Changyou from College of Engineering presented the research achievement of SCAU concerning the technology of rice centralized drying and some relevant equipment. He said that it was a great and challenging task in the world to develop the centralized drying technology and the cost of setting up would be very expensive. SCAU overcame the existing theoretical difficulties and filled in the blank of the field owing to its characteristics of high efficiency, low energy-consumption and low cost.
Vice-president Lu Huazhong gave the Thai guests a brief introduction on the research achievements of agricultural machinery and equipment. He believed that the application prospect of these achievements would also be promising in Thailand for the similar climate in Thailand and South China.
Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata thanked SCAU for the warm reception. He said that it was just like coming back to his hometown while visiting SCAU and he was very honored that SCAU has established close relationship in terms of scientific research and academic research with Thai government and universities. He was deeply impressed by the on-site demonstration of the precision seed-sowing machine and laser land-scraper, which made him see the remarkable progress of China s agricultural mechanization technology. He said that Thailand had always attached great importance to agricultural development and the Thai Consulate was willing to smooth the way for the mutual cooperation.
The delegation included Mrs. Jitnipa WangCherdchuwong, Commercial consul, Mrs.Urai Suwanwong, Agricultural consul and Mr. Thawatchai Buttirachai, Deputy Secretary General of Economy Committee of Thailand-China Cultural and Economic Committee. Heads from Office of International Relations, College of Engineering also attended the meeting.
