The 2nd International Conference on Mine Hazard Prevention & Control was held on October 15 and 16th at SDUST s Run Run Shaw Lecture Hall.
The conference was co-organized by SDUST, Coal Industry Bureau of Shandong Province of China and Earth Science and Resource Engineering Department, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization of Australia.
Present at the conference were Prof. Sun Jun and Prof. Song Zhenqi, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Zhang Tiegang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Shi Weizu, Vice-Director of the Department of Planning, Science and Technology, State Administration of Work Safety, Mr. Michael Alder, Manager of Coal Industry and Mine Safety Section, Department of Resource, Energy and Tourism, Australia and others.
Vice-President Jin Fengxiang presided over the opening ceremony and President Wang Chunqiu delivered his opening speech. He extended his congratulations on the convocation and warm welcome to the participants. He briefed SDUST s recent developments, saying that mine safety concerns the stable supply of energy and resources of a country, the effective protection of land resources and the health and safety of thousands of miners.
Great achievements have been made in the fields of mine hazards prevention and control, and the convocation of the conference provides a ready forum for exchange of ideas and research results.
Shi Weizu, on behalf of the State Administration of Work Safety expressed his congratulations on the conference. He said that coal makes up the major part of China s primary energy which enjoys favorable situation now due to the country s high rates of economic development. However, coal production is still a risky career in China and much more has to be done in the area. Bu Changsen and Michael Alder also spoke at the opening ceremony.
221 among the 286 presented thesises were included in the conference proceedings covering issues like mine pressure and rock stratum control, prevention of mine fire, coal dust and gas, mine flood prevention and subsidence controlling, etc. 8 keynote speeches were given by renowned scientist in relevant fields.
A symposium of Asian-Pacific joint mine safety project was also staged during the conference.
