On September 15, Oshima Mieko, President of Japan Science Society visited SMU. SMU Vice President Jin Yongxing and university librarian Prof. Chen Weijiong, met the guests. President Oshima visited the reading rooms and the bookshelves for publications donated by Japan Science Society. The two sides exchanged views on issues of book donation in the near future.

Since 2006, SMU has established a long-term relationship with Japan Science Society. Up to now, SMU has received 14 batches of 15,000 donated books. Besides, SMU library is the transfer station which is responsible for passing the donation books from Japan to universities in southern part of China. In the past five years, 240,000 books have been transferred to 13 universities in south of China.
