On the night of November 8, SMU Hong Kong alumni gathered in North Point of Hong Kong. Prof. Yu Shicheng, SMU President, Prof. Cai Cunqiang, SMU Vice President, Mr.Yang Yiliang, Honorary President of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and Mr. Liang Minxing, former Chairman of Hongkong Ship Owners Association, attended the gathering. Over 200 alumni from Hong Kong enjoyed this happy get-together.
Mr. Luo Huangfeng, President of SMU Hong Kong Alumni Association and Chairman of Golden Fame Logistics Hong Kong, delivered a welcome speech. On behalf of Hong Kong Alumni Association, he extended his warm welcome to SMU delegation. He hoped that the Association will serve as a good platform for alumni of Hongkong and other places to enhance communication.
President Yu Shicheng pointed out in his speech that Hong Kong Alumni Association has been established for six years and more and more alumni in Hong Kong shipping industry joined the association. During the six years, great changes have taken place in SMU. The large area and advanced hardware and software facilities of Lingang new campus will make it to be a world-class maritime university.
SMU Hong Kong alumni Association was found in 2004 and the number of alumni has increased year by year. In the past years, alumni worked very hard and made pioneering efforts in Hong Kong shipping industry. They won a better reputation and established a good image for SMU. This gathering attracted attention of Hong Kong media including Ta Kung Pao and Wen Hui Pao.
When interviewed by Ta Kung Pao, President Yu Shicheng said, under an international maritime environment centered in the western trade and shipping regulation, China will have much say in the IMO conferences and forums, which shows the status and strength of this big maritime country has been gradually growing.
