On September 13, the Opening Ceremony for 2010 freshmen was held in Lingang new campus of SMU. President Yu Shicheng attended this ceremony. Vice President Kong Fancun presided over the ceremony. More than 4000 freshmen participated in the meeting.

President Yu Shicheng gave a speech at first, on behalf of all faculties and students of SMU, expressing his warm welcome to freshmen. He pointed out that China's shipping industry has developed rapidly in recent years and these achievements are inseparable from contribution of nearly 60,000 graduates of SMU. He further hope students shall work hard to turn SMU into a first class maritime university in the world as soon as possible.

Student representative made a speech at the ceremony, giving useful tips to freshmen on how to spend their four-year university life.

During the ceremony, SMU Dragon Dance, choir, dancing troupe, aerobic dance team, orchestra and martial art team presented to all wonderful performances.
