On August 3, a 24-people delegation of Cross-Straits Cultural Relics Study and Cultural Heritage Conservation Practice headed by Yang Yongbin, the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST) in Taiwan, paid a visit to Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU). SNNU President Fang Yu gave a warm welcome to the delegation at Chong Yu Building. The meeting was presented by Vice President Zhang Jianxiang, Director Zhang Jiancheng and Deputy Director Wang Lei of SNNU Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, Jiao Heng, Dean of School of Chemistry and Materials Science, and Professor Li Yuhu, from School of Chemistry and Materials Science.
President Fang Yu generally introduced the history, organization and discipline construction of SNNU to the guests, hoping that the two universities will learn from each other and assist one another in cooperation in the future, with the purpose of realizing mutual development. President Yang Yongbin of NYUST expressed his sincere thanks to SNNU s hospitality and affirmed remarkable changes at SNNU since his last visit in 2009.
At the meeting, Vice President Hou Chun of NYUST gave a brief introduction to the history and features of NYUST. Liao Zhizhong, Dean of Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation in NYUST and Professor Li Yuhu from School of Chemistry and Materials Science in SNNU respectively introduced the program of practice on cultural heritage conservation and the practical work of students from Taiwan in SNNU. Besides, the two sides also discussed some concerning topics such as English education, Tourism, and Cultural Heritage Conservation.
In closing remark, SNNU Vice President Zhang Jianxiang concluded that the two universities still need time to deepen mutual understandings, but current cooperation between the two universities has entered into a key period and a harmonious cooperating atmosphere is taking its shape. Zhang Jianxiang anticipated that the two universities consolidate the achieved results and expand further cooperation at every aspect and construct communicative bridges for faculties and students from two sides.
In the afternoon, representatives from NYUST Department of Applied Foreign Languages, Graduate School of Sports and Leisure Studies, Graduate School of Materials Science, Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation, Graduate School of Chinese Studies, and Graduate School of Science and Technology Law, had discussions on related subjects and specific exchange programs with representatives from corresponding colleges of SNNU. And consequently, some initial intentions for future cooperation have been negotiated and further confirmed. (Trans. Xue Wensi)
