In the morning of March 4, Fang Yu, president of SNNU, met with Mr. Qian Xingjian, chairman of Kansas-Xi an Sister Cities Committee, in Qixiayuan of Yanta campus. Mr. Li Jianhua, deputy chief of Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office, with his wife also came here to visit their old friend. Mr. Qian solemnly handed a cheque of $2000 to president Fang and asked him to distribute it to the five students who have won the scholarship in 2008. He also informed Fang of the achievement made by Mr. Liu Xinhua, teacher from College of International Business of SNNU, in the branch college of University of Missouri in Kansas City.
President Fang said: Living aboard, Qian always cares about motherland and devotes himself to the spreading of Chinese culture in America. Concerning about the elementary education in mainland and various charities, he extends his love to students in impoverished areas. He contributes a lot in promoting Sino-US relationship. Qian s spirit is admirable and moving. President Fang also invited Qian to come back frequently.
The 76 year-old Mr. Qian, a member of the delegation invited to visit Xi an headed by Mr. Bill Skaggs, deputy mayor of Kansas City, was received warmly by the government. During his stay in Xi an, Mr. Qian realized another of his dreams: he sucessfully found the book donator for the library of Hanjiaping Primary School, Yukou Primary School and Anshang Primary School in Lantian county. Jiahuihantang Bookstore is willing to donate 200 books respectively to the above schools each year in a period of 10 years. In the morning of March 1, a book donation ceremony was held in Jiahuiantang Bookstore.
