From Nov. 11 to 16, 2008, a debut of the collected works of the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology art faculty in the first-class national gallery demonstrated the substantial academic and aesthetic harvests of the Institute s Art Department over the past two decades. The 300 plus masterpieces on display by nearly 100 BIFT art faculty members encompassed the areas of fashion design, model performance, textile design, graphic art, decorative art, interior design, environmental art, industrial design, fashion photography, animation design, digital media art, public art, oil painting and traditional Chinese painting.
The theme of Science, Art & Fashion manifested BIFT s academic tenet of integrating those three components of beauty in the human world, heralding the prospective progress of science and art. The originality of the exhibition was embodied in a variety of demonstration methods, including dynamic stage performance and static showcase, as well as video works enhanced with acoustics, lighting, and electronics. This unique association of the dynamic and the static, the abstract and the concrete, was a significant stylistic innovation in contemporary art exhibition, which explored a new path for art design. The luminous splendor of the catwalk show was hailed as the highlight of the opening ceremony.
