Delegation of University of Massachusetts Boston Visits SNNU

On May 11th, the vice provost of University of Massachusetts Boston (Umass Boston), Prof. Eunsook Hyun, visited our university. The other chief members of the delegation are Prof. Hu Wanli, Director of China Program Center of the Office of International and Transnational Affairs, and Prof. Yan Wenfan, Dean of the Department of Leadership in Education of College of Education and Human Development. Vice President Zhang Jianxiang of SNNU met the delegation at the Office Building on Chang an Campus.

Vice President Zhang bid a warm welcome to the delegation and briefly introduced our university, especially the development in external communication and cooperation in recent years. Prof. Hyun expressed his sincere thanks and talked about the general situation of Umass Boston s its advantaged disciplines, international communication, and so on. He also proposed to build a friendly cooperative relationship and to carry out substantive work as soon as possible.

Prof. Zhang Jiancheng, head of International Programs Office of SNNU, gave an overview of some related cultural programs in execution and sincerely invited the delegation to participate the 2010 China-Japan-Korea Seminar on Women Studies. Prof. Qu Yajun, director of National Women History and Culture Museum, further elaborated the Seminar and the state of the art of researches on women culture at SNNU, which deeply interested Prof. Hyun. For Umass Boston also has a great fame for its women studies. Prof. Hyun proposed that the two universities carry out substantive cooperation in this field, and he also expressed their willingness to co-host the Seminar with SNNU.

Prof. Hyun particularly stated his appreciation of our enthusiasm and efficiency in international communication. Vice President Zhang demanded that the departments relevant work out concrete protocols of cooperation and communication after the meeting, and initiate cooperation and communication programs as soon as possible. The two sides agreed to implement the details, sign the memo for establishing cooperative relation and get prepared for student exchange and teachers training programs by June 2010, and these programs will be officially launched in the fall of 2011.

During the visit, the American guests visited our university museum, saw some historical and cultural sites in and near Xian, which deepened their understanding of the history and culture of both our university and Xi an City. (Trans. Li Xiaoyang)
