On December 10th, the opening ceremony of the 5th Confucius Institutes Conference was held at the National Convention Center in Beijing. Mr. Li Changchun, the Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and awarded certificates of the Outstanding Confucius Institutes, excellent Individuals and international Chinese teaching-materials writers. He extended congratulations to the awarded individuals and groups, encouraging them to learn from experience and from each other to promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the rest of the world, deepen understanding and friendship between Chinese people and the people of other countries, and contribute to building a harmonious world.
The Confucius Institute of Woosong University won the title of Outstanding Confucius Institute. It was built in April 2007, and was the first Confucius Institute with Sichuan University. Due to the joint efforts of Sichuan University and Woosong University, the Confucius Institute of Woosong University has established a multi-level and distinctive Chinese teaching system. Besides establishing such fundamental classes as the Basic Teaching Class, Preparatory Class, Woosong University Members Class, and Secondary Schoolmasters Class, etc., the Confucius Institute of Woosong University has done more to develop a stepout and entrusting teaching module based on the local conditions, and successfully conducted the Preschool Chinese Language Education, the Elementary Chinese Language Education, and Chinese for enterprise employees.
The Confucius Institute of Woosong University, adhering to the concept of "Disseminating the Chinese culture, Building the Sino-Korea friendship bridge", attached great importance in organizing colorful Chinese cultural exchanging activities in local communities, such as Chinese Traditional Culture Exhibitions, Chinese Culture Experience Activities, Chinese Publication Exhibitions, and Chinese Speech Contest. The Confucius Institute of Woosong University constantly enriched the syllabus and contents of the Confucius Institute, and strived to promote the status and reputations of Confucius Institute. It has become the local Chinese Language Teaching and Sino-South Korean Culture Exchanging Center.
Besides the Confucius Institute of Woosong University, Sichuan University has built three other Confucius Institutes with University of Washington, Arizona State University, and University of Utah.
