On Jan. 25, the first nominee list of the introduced innovative research teams and leading talents into Guangdong was put on public notice. Professor M. Eremets from SCUT, who also has joined the "National Thousand Talents Project", passed the appraisal and appeared in the list.
Before Prof. Eremets went to Beijing for his defense, President LI Yuanyuan made an in-depth talk with him. Li expressed a warm welcome to Prof. Eremets' joining in SCUT, and discussed the interdependency and mutual promotion of science and technology with the latter. He said that the University would strongly support the development of Physics, especially the construction of Uhp (Ultra High Pressure) Science Laboratory. He promised to provide the professor a good living and working environment so that he could make better research and the development of SCUT's Physics could be promoted.
Prof. Eremets appreciated the University's support. He believed that he would do a good job for the construction of Uhp Science Laboratory.
Facts about Prof. Eremets:
Prof. Eremets is a world renowned high pressure physicist. He received his PhD in Moscow Physics Institute of former Soviet Union in 1978. In 2001, he received life-long fellowship in Max Planck Institute of Chemistry and served as the director of high pressure laboratory. Prof. Eremets has published more than 150 academic papers, among which a series of research results were published on top international academic journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Materials, and Physical Review Letters, etc. At the same time, Prof. Eremets as the applicant has received 8 patents.
