On Nov. 5th, a delegation of Singaporean ambassador-at-large visited Jinan University. Members of the delegation included Prof. Tommy Koh, Mr. Tan Seng Chye, Mr. Chin Kin Wah, Mr. Manu Bhaskran, Assoc. Prof. Kenneth Paul Tan and Ms. Sujith Kuruwita. During the visit, they had an academic discussion with some professors and Ph.D. candidates from Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISAS) of JNU.
Prof. Tommy Koh, head of delegation, told at the beginning of the discussion that their delegation was quite impressed by Chinese young scholars bold and unique viewpoints at the 4th Sino-Singaporean Forum held in Beijing recently. Prof. Cao Yunhua, Director of ISAS, said the base for Southeast Asian Studies locates at Southern China. It s wise that Prof. Koh and his delegation members chose to visit JNU.
Then, both sides had discussions on following topics, namely Singapore s role in ASEAN, the position and function of Guangdong Province in FTA, China in rapid growth, NGOs in Singapore and media in Singapore etc. In addition, Prof. Koh emphasized the historic origins of friendly relationship between China and Singapore.
