On April 17th, Ariel Armony, Fulbright scholar at Nan Kai University and associate professor of political science at Colby College, gave a lecture at the Institute of Southeast Asia Studies. As an expert on Latin America, he focused his talk on Sino-Latin American Relations.
Professor Chen Yiping from the Institute chaired the lecture and extended a warm welcome to professor Armony.
Prof. Armony firstly elaborated the three conventional factors that have been influencing the relationship between China and Latin America: trade, development of China and the cultural difference. Then he analyzed these factors through three levels of perspectives, i.e. global, hemispheric and domestic politics. Later, Prof. Armony focused on the triangular relationship among the United States, Latin America and China. In the final of his speech, he predicted the factors that would influence the Sino-Latin American relations and looked forward to a bright future.
The speech was followed by a heated discussion with the audience.
