The 6th Sino-British Space Science and Technology Cooperation Seminar was held in Wuhan East Lake Hotel from May 26 to 28. The seminar was sponsored by Sino-British Joint Laboratory for Space Science and Technology, executed by HUST, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and UK Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory. Over 140 experts from China and UK attended the seminar.

Since the conclusion of Sino-British Space Science and Technology Cooperation Framework Agreement in January 2005, such seminars have been held five times, respectively in Beijing, London, Shanghai, Changsha and Oxford. Extensive and in-depth discussions were made among scientists from the two countries and several cooperation agreements or intent agreements were concluded. Based on this, Agreement on the Establishment of Sino-British Joint Laboratory for Space Science and Technology was signed on November 18, 2007 in Beijing to establish a Sino-British Joint Laboratory for Space Science and Technology. HUST has since been on its board of directors.

This seminar was the extension of the five previous ones. Apart from the 15 experts from UK, this seminar also attracted over 120 experts from major domestic research institutions, such as China Aerospace Science and Technology Group, various institutes of CAE, China Great Wall Industry Corporation, China Electronic Technology Group and Harbin Institute of Technology. Exchanges and discussions were made in the form of general reports or group reports, covering international collaboration projects on deep space exploration, detection of near-earth space environment, micro-satellite technology, etc.

The participants also included representatives from Research Institute of Advanced Technology & Equipments, School of Physics, Institute for Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, School of Optoelectronic Science and Engineering and Department of Electrics and Information Engineering.
